Helping African Parents in Germany Navigate the System with Confidence and Clarity

After over 16 years of working within Germany’s social systems—including government agencies, youth welfare offices (Jugendamt), and school authorities—I recognized a troubling pattern: African families were often the last to receive culturally informed guidance, and in many cases, they received no support at all.

I saw the fear in parents’ eyes—confused about their rights, overwhelmed by institutional processes, and left to navigate complex systems alone. Too often, cultural misunderstandings escalated into heartbreaking consequences: children removed from their homes, families torn apart, and parents silenced by a lack of knowledge and representation.

I knew then that helping one family at a time was no longer enough.
